This afternoon at Calvary Christian School I had the privilege of speaking to over 30 students and staff. Attendees took a complimentary notebook and pen as we talked about the importance of setting goals in these four areas of our lives: Spiritual, Physical, Mental & Relational. As we discussed Spiritual goals, we talked about the importance of keeping God first. By being intentional in finding time everyday to dive into His perfect Word, we can become undistracted and live a life on mission for Him. We also discussed the importance of having a Paul in our lives that can serve as a mentor and having a Timothy that we can disciple and help grow closer to Christ.
"We must stir up the gift of God. Like sugar in the lemonade, it may be there but it needs to be set in motion." (Vance Havner)
For Physical goals, we discussed the 12-week workout program designed for them over the summer, talked about what a balanced eating plan looks like and discussed beneficial supplements to help them achieve their fitness goals.
"Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? (1 Cor. 6:19)
For Mental goals, we discussed how they would like to perform academically during the upcoming year and use the summer to grow intellectually by finding interesting books to read that will help broaden their communication skills.
"The vision must be followed by the venture. It is not enough to stare up the steps - we must step up the stairs." (Vance Havner)
Lastly, we discussed how life is all about relationships and the importance of developing deeper relationships with family and friends instead of just having surface level conversations. Instead of asking "How are you doing?" Ask "How are you really doing? Then be an open ear to let them know they are not alone and be the one who is an encouragement in that person's life.
"What you are is God's gift to you, what you do with yourself is your gift to God." (Leo Buscaglia)
Have a great evening!
